Javier Moiño

Forest Alive Naturalist Team

 BIO

Javier Moiño Wittmann was borned in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, one of the driest and most arid places in Spain. In 1998, at the age of nine, he came with his parents, to this beautiful Costa Rican land, settling in nearby Monteverde.  Attending school in the cloud forest his eyes were opened to all the beauty of flora and fauna he was surrounded by.

At fourteen he had the great opportunity to train with Naturalist Bobby Maxon, who mentored him and grew his interest in natural history. This world of relationships between animals and plants in a nature close by was by far better than television!

Bobby introduced Javier to many Scientists who live or develope projects in Monteverde where Javier soaked himself with more insight of the forest and its intricate life.

He also trained Javier as a Naturalist Guide for day and night walks in Monteverde where every new discovery was shared with visitors eager to learn from this young but extremely knowledgeable Naturalist.

When Javier and his parents arrived to Monteverde they got a beatiful property with an incredible view of the Gulf of Nicoya. They built a wonderful wooden house with their own hands, and with a few expansions, now it is a small lodge managed by Javier: Cabinas El Sol, where he lives with his wife and his two children Aniela and Dylan.

Javier loves what he does but  also enjoys  relating with people from all over the world and sharing with them the wonders mother earth offers in this small but incredibly rich enclosure called Monteverde and learn how to appreciate the beauty of this planet.
